Free scan & ocr tool

Add a searchable text layer to a scanned PDF.

OCR recognises words in a scanned page and adds an invisible text layer. The visible page stays the same, but search, selection and copy start working. The recognition runs in the SimplyPDF processing service, not in the browser.

02 / QUESTIONS

Good to know.

Does OCR run in my browser?+

No. OCR runs in the processing service. The browser places the returned word boxes in the PDF.

What languages are supported?+

The service supports common Latin-script languages; check the language selector before running a large job.

Can I edit OCR text afterwards?+

Yes. Once the text layer exists, open the PDF in the editor and click a recognised line.
